D. Russell Locke, M.D., FACS

Founder and Director

Dr. Locke is the founder and director of the Vantage Urologic Institute located in Ocala, Florida. His specialty interests are in urologic oncology (cancer), minimally invasive therapies for prostate disease, and male sexual health.

Dr. Locke is a native Floridian. He attended Florida State University where he was selected for the Program in Medical Sciences. During this time, he was awarded the opportunity to pursue an accelerated path leading to a Bachelor of Science in Biology while completing the first year of medical school. Subsequently, he received his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine where he remained to complete his surgical and urological training.

Dr. Locke is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of many regional and national healthcare organizations, including the American Urological Association, the Southeastern Section of the AUA, and the Florida Urological Society. He frequently speaks at community and industry-sponsored events on his clinical and professional interests.

Dr. Locke has vast experience in clinical research, especially in prostate cancer. His urological expertise is in prostate cancer diagnosis and stratification, structured active surveillance (delayed intervention) for patients with low-risk prostate cancer, noninvasive focal ablation therapies for small localized prostate tumors, new and emerging therapies for advanced prostate cancer, and male sexual health and vitality.

Dr. Locke was actively recruited to the Ocala area by Dr. S. A. (Moses) Shashy, founder of one of the oldest urological practices in the Southeastern United States. Upon Dr. Locke’s arrival to the area in 1988, he developed a uniquely progressive and innovative approach to urologic healthcare. During this time, he introduced numerous technological advances and surgical techniques, which had a regional impact on the diagnosis and treatment of urologic disorders. Through this experience, the concept of a comprehensive approach in the diagnosis and treatment of urologic disorders utilizing the most modern and innovative techniques was formulated. To date, Dr. Locke has devoted his career to the practice and development of this method of urologic healthcare.

Maren C. Locke, M.D., FAAD

Director of Rejuvenation and Aesthetic Services

Dr. Locke is a board-certified Dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon. She is the founder and director of Carlyle Dermatology—an institute she created in 2018 to offer a distinctive patient experience to those seeking medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology services. Her clinical practice is focused on comprehensive skin health including full-body skin examination, early detection of skin cancer, skin cancer surgery utilizing the Mohs micrographic surgery technique, reconstructive surgery, medical dermatology of common and rare conditions, and cosmetic dermatology.

Dr. Locke is a native Floridian and was raised in Ocala, FL. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She focused on her pre-medical studies, graduated with Honors, and returned to Florida to attend the University of Florida College of Medicine for her medical degree. After graduating in 2012, Dr. Locke completed her Internship in Internal Medicine at UF Health before advancing on to her Dermatology training at MetroHealth-Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She served as Chief Resident during her final year of residency and developed a special interest for surgical procedures of the skin. This led her to seek additional training through a fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology where she trained under experts in the field.

Dr. Locke is one of the few Dermatologists that are fellowship-trained in Mohs Surgery for skin cancer treatment. During this additional training year, fellows develop the surgical expertise to perform the highly technical and effective Mohs surgery and reconstruction procedures that yield the highest cure rate for skin cancer while optimizing function and cosmetic appearance. Additionally, fellows gain a comprehensive understanding of complex skin cancers and treatment options. This additional qualification allows Dr. Locke to offer patients the highest level of surgical care with unparalleled cure rates.

This expertise not only sets Dr. Locke apart within the field of surgical dermatology but also gives her a unique vantage point to excel in cosmetic dermatology. Her intensive training in skin surgery yields a deep understanding of facial anatomy and structure. Mastery of anatomy coupled with precise technical skill are two critical components of restoring a natural and youthful appearance. Dr. Locke is passionate about understanding patients’ cosmetic concerns and will utilize the latest technology and products to help you achieve your best and most vibrant skin yet.

Dr. Locke is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), a diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, an Associate Member of the American College of Mohs Surgery, and a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Joseph A. Migliozzi, Ph.D., M.D.

Laboratory Director

Dr. Migliozzi serves as the Laboratory Director at the Vantage Urologic Institute. He is a recognized expert in the field of urological and molecular pathology.

Dr. Migliozzi received his Ph.D. and M.D. degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois. Subsequently, he completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, followed by a fellowship in surgical pathology at UCLA in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Migliozzi is board certified in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Prior to joining the Vantage Urologic Institute, Dr. Migliozzi compiled over four decades’ experience in the academic, corporate, and private sectors. In addition to his expertise in pathology, Dr. Migliozzi is knowledgeable about various treatment options for prostate and urothelial cancer. He consults frequently with pathologists, clinicians, and patients regarding cancer diagnosis, stratification, and integrative therapies.

Dr. Migliozzi is an active and contributing member of the International Academy of Pathology and College of American Pathologists.

Rick P. Sessions, PA-C

Mr. Sessions relocated to Florida from his native North Carolina in 2002.  He received his formal medical and urological training at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine where he graduated as a Physician Assistant in 1979.  He is nationally certified as a Physician Assistant through the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants. He has worked as a staff Physician Assistant in both private and academic settings including the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Urology in Chapel Hill where he acquired extensive experience in all aspects of medical and surgical urologic healthcare.

Mr. Sessions has undergone specialty training in the areas of general urology, men’s health and female incontinence.
